About the Role
We are looking for a highly driven individual to join our Finance & Accounting team. As a Finance & Accounting Associate, you will provide the Bearing Tree team and our partner organizations with critical backend support that empowers everyone to do their best work. You must be curious, entrepreneurial, self-accountable, and solutions-driven. Additionally, you are passionate about the work of our partner organizations and are committed to doing everything you can to help them be successful.
This role is an exceptional opportunity for someone early in their career to gain comprehensive exposure to all aspects of accounting. From day-to-day transactions and reconciliations to month-end close and audit support, you’ll be involved in the full accounting cycle across multiple organizations. You’ll build a strong foundation in financial operations while developing practical, hands-on experience that will serve as a springboard for future growth in the field. At the same time, the role is also well-suited for someone further along in their career who is excited to apply their experience in a dynamic, mission-driven environment and take ownership of a wide range of accounting functions.
Responsibilities include:
- Assist in processing day-to-day Accounts Payable transactions and coordination including invoice routing and broader payables review, approval, and payment processes (through DocuPeak platform or otherwise)
- Assist in processing and completing weekly bill payments (ACH, wire, checks, and online payments) for Bearing Tree and our clients
- Assist with daily and monthly reconciliations of bank and credit card statements
- Assist in monitoring Ramp credit card platform and approvals
- Prepare and maintain financial records using accounting software
- Ensure financial transactions comply with policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain organized and accurate records of financial activities
- Effectively respond to general AP and other inquiries from partners and vendors in a timely manner
- Respond to general inquiries from partners
- Assist in audit requests from CPA firm
- Assist Senior Accounting Manager with month-end closing entries
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records and participate in audits and reconciliations, as needed.
- Assist the team with special projects, as needed
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial operations
- 1-3 years of experience in an accounting role, accounts payable experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Experience with Netsuite is preferred, though not necessary
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal abilities and a commitment to building relationships with clients and colleagues
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with financial information
- Quick learner with a willingness to take on new tasks and responsibilities

Location:
The position will be based in our Chicago office.
Hybrid work environment with a minimum of 3 days in-office each week.
